Pimpri Chinchwad, June 13, 2020: Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has prepared e-learning courses for students for the coming academic year. Considering that the students studying in the municipal school are from low-income families, there will be many obstacles while imparting online education. Henceforth, four FM stations will be set up to teach lessons to students. Thomas Noronha, the executive engineer (telecommunications), PCMC, said the process had begun.

PCMC has 105 primary schools with a student population of 42,108 and 1105 teachers. Also, the municipality has 24 secondary schools, wherein 8870 students are studying. There are 185 teachers in secondary schools. COVID-19 has created a lot of chaos about the commencement of the academic year. The municipal corporation has already decided to start the academic year from June 15 by giving them online education.

PCMC offers education in four languages, namely Marathi, Hindi, Urdu and Semi English. A separate FM radio station will be set up for each medium. This FM facility will be available up to a distance of 15 to 20 km in the municipal area. Municipal teachers will record a lesson in fifteen to twenty minutes, which will be broadcast on FM radio. The recordings made for FM radio will also be made available on the official website of the PCMC. It will also benefit students across the state, said Noronha.
