Prime Minister Modi Accuses Opposition Of Neglecting Manipur’s Pain
New Delhi, 12th August 2023: During an address to the Kshetriya Panchayati Raj Parishad of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal via video conferencing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly criticized the Opposition’s stance on the government’s handling of the violence in Manipur. He accused these parties of prioritizing political interests over the well-being of the people, asserting that they seemed indifferent to the pain and suffering endured by the population. PM Modi said their actions appeared to be driven solely by political motives rather than genuine concern.
PM Modi also took the opportunity to condemn the Opposition leaders who walked out of Parliament while he was addressing the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha. He expressed his disappointment that these leaders abandoned the parliamentary session, particularly because it directly impacted the people of Manipur. The Prime Minister pointed out that Home Minister Amit Shah had expressed a desire to engage in a comprehensive discussion on the Manipur issue before the session, but the Opposition’s actions prevented that from happening.
Highlighting the sensitivity of the Manipur matter, PM Modi asserted that a fruitful discussion could have led to solutions that would have alleviated the concerns of the people in Manipur. He indicated that the Opposition’s reluctance to engage in such a discussion suggested that they were apprehensive about the truth surrounding Manipur, as it might have been unfavourable to them. PM Modi expressed his belief that the Opposition’s decision to prioritize a political debate through the No-Confidence Motion instead of addressing the pressing issue was driven by their inclination towards political manoeuvring.
The Prime Minister further emphasized that the government’s victory in the no-confidence motion illustrated the strength of their position and the disapproval of the Opposition’s negative tactics. He urged BJP workers to diligently communicate the truth to the public, underlining the need to counteract the Opposition’s negativity with factual information. PM Modi acknowledged the Opposition’s tendency to disrupt parliamentary proceedings but emphasized the importance of engaging with the public to ensure that they are well informed about the actualities.
In addition to addressing the Opposition’s actions, PM Modi criticized the Trinamool Congress party in West Bengal for its role in the violence that occurred during the recently concluded panchayat elections in the state. This served as another example of his commitment to upholding peace and transparency in the political process.
