Pune: Now 88 peons of primary education dept deployed for COVID duty

Pune, June 22, 2020: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Primary Education Department has deployed 88 of its peons on quarantine duty in taking care of the quarantined patients. The primary teachers who were on Corona survey duty have been relieved of their COVID duties. These teachers were on a marathon door to door survey in the PMC area since March 21 as part of their duty for three months.

According to the PMC, the teachers carried out their duties as instructed while the peons and clerks had not been given any duty. With the new orders, anyone found not reporting to the duty will be taken to task and action will be taken, PMC officials said.

The total number of Coronavirus positive patients till date has reached 12,474 out of which 7435 have been cured while 510 have died in Pune. There are still 4529 active patients undergoing treatment in various hospitals. They include 290 critical patients out of which 60 are on ventilator support. Till now 87,179 people have been tested in Pune city.
