Pimpri, 3rd November 2023: In anticipation of the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India has initiated a comprehensive voter re-inspection program. The first phase has been completed, with the second phase commencing on October 27 and scheduled for completion by December 9. The re-inspection effort aims to address discrepancies in the voter lists by identifying deceased voters, individuals who have changed their addresses, and the inclusion of newly eligible voters while eliminating duplicate names.

As a result of these efforts, the district administration has released the draft voter list, revealing a substantial increase in the number of registered voters in the city, with a notable rise in the Chinchwad and Bhosari assembly constituencies and a decrease in the Pimpri constituency.

As per the directive of the Election Commission of India, the re-audit of voter registration and voter lists is specifically targeting citizens who turned 18 years old on January 1, 2024. The district administration has released the draft voter list following the first phase of the re-inspection program.

Chinchwad Constituency has emerged as the constituency with the highest number of voters in the city, a position it held previously due to its size. On the other hand, the Pimpri Constituency still has the lowest number of voters.

With the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections scheduled for next year, the Election Commission’s campaign primarily focuses on new voter registrations, the removal of duplicate entries, the exclusion of deceased voters, and the inclusion of voter photographs in the list, alongside address updates.

Constituency-wise Changes in Voter Numbers (As of January 1, 2022, and October 2023):

Chinchwad: 5,66,577 to 5,85,731 (Increase of 19,154)
Pimpri: 3,69,802 to 3,63,829 (Decrease of 5,973)
Bhosari: 5,00,547 to 5,26,858 (Increase of 26,311)
Total: 14,76,418 to 14,36,926 (Increase of 39,492)

The variations in voter numbers can be attributed to factors such as the exclusion of new voter registrations, the removal of deceased voters, and changes in residence patterns. Chinchwad and Bhosari constituencies have expanded to include newly incorporated villages and have attracted a substantial number of residents. Areas from Dapodi to Nigdi now fall under the Pimpri Constituency, which has witnessed a shift in population towards suburban living.

Moreover, areas like Chikhali, Moshi, Charholi, and Dudulgaon in Bhosari have experienced a significant increase in the number of voters. Similarly, Tathawade, Punawale, Ravet, and Kiwale areas in Chinchwad have also seen notable growth in voter numbers.

The re-inspection program is currently underway in Bhosari, focusing on registering new voters, correcting voter list entries, and excluding deceased voters, particularly targeting women, disabled, homeless, and individuals of various genders. The Voter Registration Officer and Deputy Collector of Bhosari Vidhan Sabha Constituency, Revannath Labde, emphasized the importance of maximum citizen participation in this campaign.
