Pune: Kothrud area observes surge in COVID-19 cases

Pune, June 18, 2020: Kothrud area seems to be widely affected by Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), as the area reported around 197 positive cases so far. The rapid spread of COVID has worried the residents and administration. A notice has been issued to the administration to control the spread of pandemic in the area. Among the total number of cases, 155 cases alone are from slum areas in Kothrud.

The first case of COVID in Kothrud area was detected on March 23. After a month’s time, the second case was reported on April 25. Next was encountered on May 3 and then May 4, after which the COVID-19 cases in the area kept on increasing gradually. On May 30, around 31 positive cases were reported in the area.

The Pune administration took all possible measures to ensure the pandemic doesn’t spread in the slum areas of Kothrud. It has been observed that the cases have increased in the area, post the alcohol shops were allowed to open to sell liquor. Within two weeks the number shot up to a hundred. Nevertheless, the numbers swelled up between June 12- 17, recording 197 cases there. Kelewadi, Vasantnagar, Srikrishna Colony in Shashtrinagar, PMC colony are highly affected areas in Kothrud.

There are a total of 132 active cases in Kothrud, while 60 patients have recovered and reported five deaths till now. Today, 21 cases have been found in Kelewadi area, whereas on Tuesday, 67 cases were reported from ARAI road, Balshakti Mandal, Vasantnagar, Vishwashanti Mandal, More Shramik Residence, Megacity areas. Similarly, 67 cases have been recorded from areas including PMC colony, Srikrishna Colony, Maratha Mahasang society, Patrachal, Lokmanya residence.
