Pune Lights Up With Christmas Lights And Celebrations!
Pune, 26th December 2022: Pune celebrated Christmas with great pomp and joy this year after multiple years of Covid-restricted celebrations. Though no official rules or restrictions have been mentioned by authorities this year, churches began their preparations cautiously for joyous but safe celebrations.
Most Christian communities began their Christmas celebration with a midnight mass on Christmas eve or an early morning mass on Christmas day. Churches, community spaces, malls, streets, and individual homes remained lit with Christmas lights and stars.
The police department and authorities ensured the smooth flow of traffic with diversions and maintenance as families and friends flocked onto the streets for meals, shopping, partying and get-togethers. With various personal, intimate celebrations, the city also saw many organised celebrations and parties at hotels, bars, and clubs. Youngsters flocked to these spaces in large numbers to celebrate their day with friends. With the reduced number of cases, the city also saw multiple organised camps and treks with a view of the lit-up city.
Bishop Thomas Dabre of Poona stated in his Christmas address that acts of religious terrorism, extremism, fundamentalism, and prejudice are on the rise. All of this goes against religion’s true character. People of the same religion are fighting belligerently and viciously in Myanmar, Ukraine, Russia, Africa, and other nations. The Christmas message makes clear the meaning and purpose of religion in such a gloomy and stressful atmosphere. Religion entails happiness, harmony, love, and peace. “People from different cultures, religions, and nations participate in the happy celebrations. Religion is not limited by time or space. Religion should not be restricted by national and cultural boundaries. Christmas communicates this,” he said.
