Pune, 19th June 2025: A government-run Zilla Parishad (ZP) school in Jalindernagar, located in Khed taluka of Pune district, has achieved a remarkable milestone by making it to the top 10 shortlist for the “World’s Best School Prize”, a prestigious international award organized by T4 Education.

The school has been nominated under the ‘Community Collaboration’ category, which honours institutions that demonstrate strong partnerships with local communities to improve education and impact. It is the only Indian school to be selected this year—and notably, a Marathi-medium school managed by the government.

Headmaster Dattaray Ware announced the recognition during a press conference on Wednesday, stating that the final winner will be decided through public voting, with the winning school receiving a prize of ₹1 crore (USD 1,25,000).

“What we’ve achieved is not just about recognition—it’s proof that when a community comes together, even a rural government school can create global standards,” Ware said. “Years ago, this school was on the verge of shutting down due to low enrolment. But today, we are standing on an international platform.”

Once struggling for survival, the school turned its fortunes around through collective efforts by teachers, students, parents, and the local community. These efforts included infrastructural development, innovative teaching methods, and inclusive activities that brought villagers into the learning process.

Ware emphasized that the journey itself has empowered educators in the public system. “This global honour has revived faith in government schools. It tells teachers across the country that change is possible when we believe in the power of collaboration,” he added.

The announcement was made during a global live event, sparking celebrations on the school campus. Students, teachers, and local residents gathered to cheer and share sweets, marking a moment of pride not just for the school but for rural education in India.

Public voting for the final winner is now open, and the school community is urging people across India to support their journey by casting a vote.
