There Are Still 2,000 Potholes In Pune City: PMC Survey

Pune, 6th May 2022: While citizens of Pune have struggled every day while driving through the potholes in the roads of Pune for the last year, road digging has been still going on. However, in the last four months, the road department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has claimed to have filled 9000 pits. More than 2,000 pits are yet to be filled.

 

 

 

Hundreds of kilometres of roads are dug every year in the city for water supply, mobile cables, gas pipes, power cables, sewers, and other reasons. These road repairs are done by both the Municipal Corporation and the contractors. However, cement concrete has been laid in some places and asphalting has been done in some places.

On the one hand, the roads are getting damaged due to excavation, on the other hand, the roads are getting damaged due to the expiration of asphalted roads, poor quality of asphalting, soil in pits, asphalting without removal of stones, etc.

 

 

 

In the budget of Pune Municipal Corporation, the provision of Rs 1.25 crores was invested for these causes annually. From this, these works are done throughout the year. Roads with a width of more than 12 meters in the city come to the main road department, while the responsibility for the roads under it lies with the concerned regional office.

 

 

 

The main account is divided into two sections, East and West. Accordingly, the work of filling these pits is done. Also, pits are being filled through the Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative.

 

 

 

East Section:

 

Potholes-9506

 

Filled Potholes- 7922

 

 

 

West Section:

 

Potholes- 1679

 

Filled Potholes – 1301

 

 

 

Total potholes – 11185

 

Filled Potholes- 9223

 

 

 

Sahebrao Dandge, Superintendent Engineer, said, “There are reports of potholes in various parts of the city. Road department officials also survey the road. From that, the statistics of the pits have been fixed. These works are carried out through budgetary provisions for road repairs. The work of filling the remaining two thousand pits will be completed before the monsoon.”
