Maharashtra, 21st March 2022: A committee will be set up to probe the alleged misappropriation of government money in the implementation of the “Prajwala” scheme launched by the former BJP-led government in Maharashtra. This information was given by Yashomati Thakur, Minister of Women and Forces Welfare in the State Government in the Legislative Council on Monday.

The Prajwala scheme was launched by the then government in 2019 to provide legal, social and financial information to the members of women self-help groups. Maharashtra Women’s Commission had implemented this scheme.

Yashomati Thakur said, “The Maharashtra government will set up an inquiry committee to probe the alleged misappropriation of state government money under the Prajwala scheme. The then chairperson of the Women’s Commission will also have to appear before this commission.”

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Vijaya Rahatkar was the chairperson of the Women’s Commission between 2014-19. Kayande told the council that the bills submitted by officials of the State Commission for Women were handwritten and not final.

Kayande said, “The bills that were handed over were not in proper format as required by the guidelines. The scheme was to be implemented in all 288 assembly constituencies but it was implemented only in select 98 constituencies.”

He further said that the assembly constituencies were selected in such a way that only the BJP gets the benefit of the scheme.
