Pune, 11th June 2023: After a prolonged wait, the long-awaited monsoon rains have finally made their way into Maharashtra on Sunday afternoon, June 11. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the arrival of monsoon showers in Ratnagiri, accompanied by light rainfall in Anand. Traditionally, monsoon rains reach the state around June 7.

However, this year, the monsoon made a delayed entry into Kerala on Wednesday, June 7. The Meteorological Department had predicted favorable weather conditions for the monsoon’s progress, and as expected, the monsoon winds reached Ratnagiri on Sunday. The monsoon winds have also reached Shimoga and Hassan in Karnataka, as well as parts of West Bengal.

KS Hosalikar, Head of IMD, Pune, tweeted about the accumulation of a significant number of clouds along the Konkan coast.

Remarkably, this year the monsoon rains entered Maharashtra within just four days after making landfall in Kerala on May 7. Typically, the monsoon winds take around seven to eight days to reach Maharashtra after entering Kerala. However, this year’s swift progress has brought the monsoon rains to the state in a shorter timeframe.
