Pune, 20th April 2023: Many people nowadays spend their time playing games and looking at smartphones. The gaming industry has evolved into an activity that can provide hours of entertainment with its visually pleasing designs and realistic gameplay. However, there was a time when people used to play video games on their televisions, spending hours on end shooting ducks, tanks, and rescuing Mario’s princess.

Super Mario changed the history of gaming, and now, with the advent of mobile phones and PlayStations, gaming on TVs has become a thing of the past. But recently, students from the Frameboxx Animation Institute in Pune took visitors on a journey through the history of global gaming with their exhibition, “Artbox,” held at the Swargate branch of the Institute.

The exhibition showcased the evolution of video games from Pong, created in 1972, to popular games such as Duck Hunt, Super Mario, Contra, Counter-Strike, GTA Vice City, and even PUBG. The students provided insights into how these games were created, their history, and their popularity. The CEO of Frameboxx, Ravi Gupta, Vice President Vinita Bachani, and Assistant General Manager Amit Chhetri, along with Vinay Binayke and Sunita Binayke of the Swargate Branch, were present at the event.

Gupta highlighted that India has a significant number of people who play games, with mobile games having a turnover of billions of dollars. Millions of video games are now easily accessible with a single click, and playing for eight to ten hours is now not uncommon. The number of virtual game fans worldwide is enormous, with a significant craze for online gaming in many countries. Gupta also mentioned that the gaming industry could offer employment opportunities in the future. The Indian gaming industry is expected to create lakhs of jobs in the financial year 2023, along with other sectors like animation, VFX, and comics. The task force set up by the Government of India has predicted that approximately 20 lakh new jobs will be created in the AVCG (animation, VFX, gaming, and comics) field in the next eight years.

Bachani emphasized that game development is an exciting field that can draw people with diverse skill sets and immerse players in compelling storylines. Video games have contributed significantly to advancements made in computing. The online gaming industry is one of the fastest-growing industries worldwide and has been at its peak in popularity in recent decades.
