Delhi, 18 January 2024: The Ministry of Education in New Delhi has implemented fresh directives to oversee coaching centers. These guidelines explicitly forbid the admission of students under 16, allowing enrollment only after successful completion of the secondary school examination. Stricter regulations caution against coaching institutes making unrealistic promises regarding ranks or academic performance.

These measures were instituted in response to government concerns related to student suicides, fire incidents, inadequate facilities, and teaching methodologies within coaching centers. The guidelines not only outline conditions for registration, such as hiring tutors with at least a graduation-level qualification, refraining from misleading advertisements, and ensuring minimum space per student, but also address broader objectives.

The overarching goals of these guidelines encompass establishing a structured framework for the registration and oversight of coaching centers, defining minimum operational standards, safeguarding the interests of enrolled students, fostering co-curricular activities for holistic student development, and offering career guidance and psychological counseling to support students’ mental well-being.

To achieve registration, coaching centers are required to submit applications, undergo renewal procedures, and adhere to specified conditions. These conditions include hiring qualified tutors, refraining from deceptive promises, admitting students aged 16 and above, and implementing a counseling system.
