Pune, January 15, 2021: ‘0’ will have to be used to make a call from a landline to mobile from today. The Department of Telecommunications has implemented the changes after the recommendation of The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. This change will allow telecom companies to make more numbers.
Companies had informed their users about the changes a day before the implementation. Telecom companies reminded customers on Thursday that they would first have to dial zero when placing a call from a landline to mobile from Friday 15 January. The Department of Telecommunications has recently issued a directive for this.

Airtel told its fixed-line users, “Under the directive of the Department of Telecommunications, which has been in operation since 15 January 2021, you will have to dial zero before the number while connecting the phone from your landline to a mobile.” Reliance Jio also reminded its fixed-line users.

In November, the Department of Telecommunications said that consumers would have to dial zero first while making a call from a landline to mobile from 15 January. The Ministry of Communications says that this step will create many new numbers for the future. With this, about 253.9 crore new numbers will be made. Chairman and managing director of state-run telecom company BSN, PK Purwar, has informed that the company has started creating awareness among the users.

It won’t be wrong if we consider the mobile number being 11 digits instead of 10. As now eleven numbers have to be dialed before making a call to the mobile number. In the beginning, it was necessary to apply zero to call a user’s mobile number different from their area. With the current changes, this practice has once again become a part of our life.
