Pune, 30th December 2021: With the rise of Covid-19 cases and the fear of Omicron, Pune residents will have to follow government regulations while welcoming the new year.

Pune Police has increased its security presence around the city. Plans have been taken up to combat the smuggling of narcotic drugs in private venues such as hotels and in stoping late-night parties.

Senior police inspectors and policemen will be on foot patrol in congested areas, including the central city. Officers in civil clothes have been assigned to take action against the perpetrators, taking advantage of the throng to prevent harassment of women and girls.

However, the daily increase in the number of corona patients has hampered many people’s plans for celebrations. Various hotel and pub owners provide special incentives to entice customers. Although, the Pune Police has taken further efforts to ensure that there would be no security gaps.

Meanwhile, drug smugglers who take advantage of the opportunity in pubs with late-night offers are likely to entice young people into the trap. Illegal liquor smuggling is a possibility but the police will keep an eye out for it. Local cops have also been told to be on the lookout and respond quickly.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner has given special instructions to police station chiefs and strong security has been deployed in the area of Koregaon Park, Camp, Kalyani Nagar, Mundhwa, Fergusson road and JM road, which are known places where people throng for New Year celebrations.
